CCLXXXI ~> Reluctant Remembrance*
(Opus281 ~> Reluctant Remembrance)
(1)
When making a choice between oblivion
And recall, chances are you gravitate
Remembrance invites remorse in surfeit;
Quest for vengeance, makes harder to forget:
Footprints you find ill-hidden on the sand,
How they got hid, lost lovers understand!
Getting past the list of wasted chances
Proves more taxing than a Sunday picnic
Flipping through relics of near-romances
Weighs on the conscience waxing sardonic
To anchor reason vexing laconic:
Footprints you find at fringes of your mind
Haunt you like crudities to be refined!
(3)
Sensing the end is near, you venture ask
What was it all about; you wish for more.
Only to find it’s such a daunting task
To keep your vigilance and just ignore
The errors that beset your paths before:
You’re but the hapless shadow of the show
(4)
Coming to this world overtly crying,
You sojourned through without breaking the rules
That you vent a few, there’s no denying;
Though in the guise of shifting protocols
With give and take on some intangibles:
Each floundering denouement of veiled mirth
Keeps hounding you, reminding of your birth!
