CCXCVI ~> Graduation Day
for Nikki*
(For Nikki, on her Graduation Day)**
(1)
One in the bag, at least two more to go;
Should be the tally if you’re keeping track.
What this all means, nobody knows but you,
Should you go forward or rather go back,
Depends on what you think you might still lack:
The page earmarked in your own calendar,
This day reveals the zest of who you are!
(2)
Neither is undoing what you
had done.
The best you might do is
course correction
On paths you charted ere you
had begun
The run; without planning for so
much fun:
Whose exploits never on facts
depend!
When you begin to tackle new
hurdles,
Leave no doubt on depth of
your commitment.
Else you would be flirting
with more troubles;
When you ride on the heat of
the moment,
You lose the ground to make an
argument:
(4)
Vicissitudes replete might be your realm;
No matter how judiciously you prune
The myriad options, prone to overwhelm
Your shortcomings, tempting you to impugn
Above all else true to yourself remain,

**The piece was minted for my granddaughter Nikki, as a present for her
on Graduation Day from St. Anthony High School in Long Island, NY. It is posted
before the event to solicit help from any and all kind and generous readers who
might volunteer some ideas on how to improve on it.
