CCXCV ~> Doomsday Misgivings*
(1)
Might prove mere fragments of
your reverie
That bloom malignant with
defiant scorn
Waxing indignant, taxing
memory
Of wasted chances to set your
mind free:
Denying grooms your doomsday
misgiving!
(2)
Wasted chances, too numerous to count,
Should they be counted, dubious to what end.
There are ramparts too daunting to surmount;
Like riddles too muddled to comprehend,
Or broken rules too jaded to amend:
They darkle and sparkle like kerfuffle
That hurtle trouble for the gullible!
(3)
Beneath the veil of never questioned faith
You feel secure the morn comes tomorrow;
The earth’s rotation importunes no wraith,
But with calculations rigor-thorough,
Day follows night in mirth or in sorrow:
Ergo, I part with franchised pleasantry --
With a song in my heart, have a nice day!
